I grew up in a rough area in Liverpool…
Hi, my name is Matthew and I want to quickly tell you my story.
When I was a young kid, I grew up in a rough area in Liverpool called Huyton, to a black mother and a white father.
Little did I know, that when I was younger, Huyton was quite a racist area — and it was quite tough as well.
So ever since the age of five, my Dad took me to boxing. He probably knew me being the eldest boy of three kids, in a rough estate, being mixed race, that I’d come into some trouble.
And he was right, I did come into trouble.
(But that’s another story for another day)
Anyway, my Dad took me to boxing when I was just five years of age, and I remember, the coach was like:
“You’re too young, we’re not gonna let you train!”
My Dad tried again when I was six… “No, we’re not gonna let you train.”
Then when I was seven… “No you’re too young, come back next year.”
And then when I was eight, that’s when they finally let me train.
All of those years my dad tried to sneak me into the gym haha.
My Mum was scared about me learning boxing, but my Dad knew I had to go. Maybe he thought I’d eventually be the protector of the family or something.
So anyway, years went by, and for my first three years of boxing…
I was absolutely crap!
I got battered by everyone and I didn’t really learn. I got coached by a guy called Mick, and for years, probably the first 18 months or two years I was crap, I got battered in sparring every single time.
But I didn’t lose any enthusiasm. I just kept going…
I just kept showing up…
As weird as it sounds, I’d shadowbox on the way to school haha. I was always shadowboxing and learning (and I think I was starting to get better).
One day my coach Mick brought me into the advanced class and gave me some more tips which helped a lot … and I just kept plugging away, I just kept at it.
And then literally about a year later, after training through the summer, I entered into the schoolboy championships.
And I went on to win and become a national champion!
From there I just kept progressing…
The following year I got to the finals again, but I got beat.
The year after that, I won the championships again… and my boxing career really started to take off! I was captain of the England squad at the time. And I boxed in the Four Nations and got a silver medal. And I eventually went on to win one more national championship (three in total).
But even though I was having a great amateur career — I was starting to get a level of fame, looking like I’d turn professional one day — something happened that pretty much ended everything.
My Mum got sick.
Without going into too much detail, my Mum had lots of operations over a few years and her health just kept deteriorating. I remember being in hospital and looking into my Mum’s eyes, and looking into my Dad’s eyes… and they were both crying. It was the first time I’d seen either of them cry. We were all crying and I was terrified. Honestly, it was torture and it’s haunted me for decades.
We weren’t sure if my Mum was going to make it. I remember seeing her eyes and the pain and the sadness. All I wanted to do was heal my Mum.
But that fear, that pain, that vulnerability, that despair, and that desperate nature that was felt in that moment, was a big motivation for me to learn as much about health as possible. The hospital didn’t really have an answer, they only offered her drugs with loads of side effects and we didn’t want that.
During those times when my Mum was sick, I found a book called The Book of Natural Cures by Justin Trudeau.
I remember reading that book and getting SO invested in health. I went down a rabbit hole.
And thankfully, my Mum survived and she is in good health now. She used lots of the knowledge in The Book of Natural Cures to get healthy again.
Around that time I was also training for another national title…
But my focus was all over the place and I got beat!
I didn’t really train hard for the fight. The kid was a lot fitter than me, he wasn’t better than me, but he was fitter than me… so he beat me.
I thought I could just rely on my skill and my strength but it wasn’t enough (important lesson there).
After that defeat, and after seeing my Mum’s health deteriorate, it made me realise just how important health is… and how you can’t take things for granted. Your genetics and the health that you’re BORN WITH will only take you so far. You’ve got to keep doing the work, you can never stop improving.
After losing the national title I was in a lot of pain.
Not just because I got beat… but because I got beat soundly, from not being fit. That’s when I realised that I had to make some changes in my life.
So again, I started to get deeper and deeper into health and fitness.
I went on a deep dive into understanding how the body works, how to get fitter, and how to look after your body and stay healthy, naturally.
My mother’s deteriorating health was a catalyst for building the wealth of knowledge that I have today. I was just learning and learning and learning. Working on my body, trying to improve, trying to build myself, my physique, my confidence, everything.
I went from 63 kg to 75 kg and it was due to the lifestyle I was living.
And the biggest thing that I was learning — the MAIN focus — was on building strength. I wanted to be the heaviest puncher out of everyone I knew.
But, I didn’t want to just get strong…
I also wanted to be the fastest, I wanted to be the fittest, I wanted to be the strongest, I wanted to be in the best shape, and I wanted to be the healthiest.
I wanted functional strength, mobility, speed, and good overall health. From the inside out.
That drive and that desire came from the pains in the past, and it basically built me into the shape, the man, that I am today.Oh, and by the way, during this time…
I was still in school!
Haha, yeah man. I’ve been at this a while. I started in this game when I was young.
As soon as I left school I jumped into a two-year PT course to become a qualified personal trainer. (Nowadays, it only takes two weeks! Literally, like two to three weeks. It’s scandalous.)
Anyway, I got qualified and started sharing my knowledge with my different clients. Over the next 14 years I coached at Lifestyles, LA Fitness, The Gym Group, JD Gym, and a few other gyms too.
At the time, I was in the BEST shape of my life. I was 81 kg, I was lean with an 8% body fat, and I was strong. And my strength-to-weight ratio was over 1.5 on all lifts. So I could lead by example.
I was sharing my knowledge about strength, power, health, and wellness.
And literally, on my first day, I had five people practically begging to become clients of mine.
They’d seen me before in a different gym but never had the opportunity to train with me before.

I was ready to share my knowledge about strength, power, health, and wellness.
And literally, on my first day, I had five people practically begging to become clients of mine. They’d seen me before in a different gym but never had the opportunity to train with me before.
And to be honest, the Winners Only community has just grown and grown from there.
I’m living the dream because I get to coach people and share my knowledge. I get to help people grow in confidence in how they look. I help people build muscle without losing the ability to function.
Up to this day, Winners Only has attracted so many people to me. I’ve worked with over 3,400+ in-person clients.
One of my first clients Vicky Hughes lost two and a half stone of body fat. And then, she put on nearly two stone of muscle. Together we developed her figure and totally reshaped her body composition.
(I don’t have any pictures because it was so long ago.)
Then I have another guy Dan, who’s been with me for a long time. He was 67 kg when we met, but now, he’s bulked up to 104 kg.
He gained nearly 40 kg!

And then my other client Viet who is a boxing champion with a 90% KO rate. He has taken my training on board and built some crazy strength. He’s only 5 ft 6 and he only weighs 52 kg, but he can lift over 100 kg!
That’s insane strength.

Another client Ben lost 15% body fat… but at the same time he’s built a strong and shredded physique!

The main focus of Winners Only is to give people the ability to lose body fat and build muscle at the same time… all while remaining injury-free.
So you not only get stronger, you not only get leaner, you’ll not only be doing that in a flexible way that suits your lifestyle, but you’d also be fortifying your joints and improving your flexibility, so that you’re more mobile and equally as strong.
I’ve tried hundreds and hundreds of different training methods/ approaches over the past fourteen years. And I’ve developed a set of training principles that I’ve repeated over and over… to shape the lives of people from all over the planet.
I’ve had clients from Italy, South Africa, Kuwait, Dubai, Qatar, America, Venezuela, Brazil, Germany, Spain, Scotland, Holland, Turkey, Morocco, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, from all over. (Matty doesn’t discriminate haha!)

I’ve coached beginners and advanced lifters.
I’ve coached busy professionals, bodybuilders, marathon runners, powerlifters, boxers, rugby players, golfers, and football players.
Speaking of football players…
One football player I coach plays in the Saudi League with Bobby Firmino!
His name is Sultan and he plays for Al-Ahli.

But, after Al-Ahli signed a lot of new players, they told Sultan that they were about to release him.
But, being the Winner that Sultan is…
He refused to quit!
He hired me and a private football coach to develop his skills further. I done all that I could do from a physical standpoint, and his football coach helped him on the technical side.
After implementing my training principles, Sultan gained 3 kg of muscle… he cut his body fat down by 1.7%… and he shaved almost a full second off his 100 m sprint.
Al-Ahli were about to release him…
But now they’ve decided to keep him in the squad!
Sultan couldn’t thank me enough! (see his comments below)
Salam Alaikum Bro!
Thank you very much for every minute and every second you spent helping me and arranging everything. You made this journey easier for me. It was great feeling supported and looked after. You gave me everything I needed from your heart and I will always be grateful for that. I assure you that inshallah I will be doing my best, not wasting any minute in perusing my dream. I appreciate all your efforts and Andrew as well. From the deepest point of my heart
thank you. Jazzaak allah khair. It was a great experience here. Looking forward to meeting you in the future.
All the love and respect Sultan
Take care and we will definitely keep in touch!
It’s an honour and a privilege to work with so many motivated and committed people… to help change their lives.
My clients are learning all these skills and principles, and through their own practice, they are retaining results LONG AFTER they finish training with me.
It’s always been my mission to help as many people as possible. That’s why recently, I’ve started to also coach clients online.
And to be honest, it’s even better than in-person…
I still have a strong bond and I still coach based on numbers, data, and performance (via the Winners Only app).
So I get a birds-eye view.
I combine the objective data from the training app and compare that with the subjective feedback clients give me.
Then, I tailor my coaching methods and provide solutions that bring about results.
Don’t worry, I’m not about to ask you to join my coaching program.
Instead…
I want to give you a FREE gift!
